Cheryl Fallstead

Cheryl Fallstead has lived in New Mexico for four years and has found the transition from life-long Californian to New Mexican to be exciting and enlightening. She was amazed by the beauty and sense of belonging she found in her new home state.

She is a graduate of California State University, Sacramento, with a degree in journalism and has a masters degree from Chapman University. She has worked in areas as diverse as agriculture and education, but has always found her way back to writing and communications projects. Working in a field that requires travel and exploration fits her perfectly because she's always eager to learn something new and visit a new place.

Cheryl's magazine articles and photographs have been printed in New Mexico Magazine, New Mexico Journey, American Profile, and Animal Sheltering Magazine. She is also the editor of Southwest Senior, a monthly newspaper. Cheryl has taken a number of courses at Doña Ana Community College's Creative Media Technology program, where she now teaches a Photoshop class. Cheryl is also the webmaster for this site.

When not traveling, writing, reporting on a story or teaching, Cheryl serves on the boards of the Las Cruces and New Mexico Press Women and the Foundation for Las Cruces Museums. Cheryl recently graduated from the Leadership Las Cruces program. She lives with her husband and two dogs, who also enjoy exploring New Mexico.

Bud Russo

Award-winning travel writer and radio producer Bud Russo first came to New Mexico as a student in the 1960s.

When he graduated from New Mexico State University, he began work as a technical writer for the Manned Space Flight Program at the very beginning of America’s venture into space.  He soon turned to industrial journalism – making a career of writing about factories and manufacturing technologies all over North America as well as Europe and Asia, where he not only learned how people of different cultures live but also satisfied his curiosity about how the world works.  After 40 years, he returned to New Mexico to retire; his retirement was quite short.

When not working, Bud devotes his leisure to scuba diving, hiking and camping, and visiting natural and historic sites and parks.

“When we began Explore! New Mexico,” he says, “I wanted to tap into all the experiences I had, to share them with our audience, so they could come to appreciate the marvelous diversity of our state and its people.”

Bud makes his home in the enchanted Chihuahua Desert of Las Cruces.  He is actively involved with the Foundation for Las Cruces Museums, New Mexico Wilderness Alliance, Las Cruces Press Women, and American Southwest Theatre Company.

Explore! New Mexico is a member of the Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce.
